Wisdom Teeth Removal Brisbane

Wisdom Teeth Removal BrisbaneHave your wisdom teeth removed here at Maven Dental Lutwyche, formerly Lutwyche Dental, in Brisbane and save.

Wisdom teeth, known also as the third molars, are the very back teeth on either side of the upper and lower jaws. They are the last teeth to erupt and are usually noticed between the ages of 17 and 25 years.

Your wisdom teeth removal

Often fully erupted wisdom teeth can be removed simply and easily. However, if the wisdom teeth are impacted, it may require surgery. Here at Maven Dental Lutwyche we can provide you with the complete wisdom tooth extraction service in the dental practice without the extra cost of paying for hospital operation facilities.

How long does the procedure take?

Around 90% of wisdom teeth require virtually the same amount of time as simple extractions. Using a local anaesthetic, these teeth can be successfully removed in surgery in about 20 minutes.  The patient tends to recover with a lot less discomfort when it is done under local anaesthetic compared to a general anaesthetic.

At Maven Dental Lutwyche, formerly Lutwyche Dental, you can make an appointment for a free 5 minute consultation to receive a fixed quote based on your individual requirements. Conditions apply.

Why can they cause trouble?

The most common problem is that the jaws are not quite large enough to allow wisdom teeth to take up their correct position. As a consequence, they can become completely or partially impacted into the gum or neighbouring teeth and can crowd out the other teeth. These impacted teeth can cause problems.

What problems can they cause?

  • Pain

Generally the first sign of a problem is a dull ache in the back of the mouth. An x-ray may be necessary to help us assess the development progress and help diagnose the issue.

  • Infection in the overlying gum

In cases where only a part of an impacted tooth surfaces it can be difficult, if not impossible, to clean. As a result plaque and debris can get under the flap of gum causing the gum to become infected and inflamed.

This condition known as pericoronitis is especially common with the lower wisdom teeth. Antiseptic and other agents can be used to bring pericoronitis under control however, because there is no way of effectively cleaning the area, the condition tends to recur.

  • Damage to the tooth in front

Pressure from an impacted wisdom tooth can also produce a type of erosion cavity in the tooth in front.

  • Undo orthodontic treatment

Orthodontic treatment aims to align the teeth so they comfortably sit like a natural puzzle. When the wisdom teeth push against the other teeth in the mouth, the pressure can disturb the alignment of the teeth.

It could be the best option to remove wisdom teeth so the teeth don’t shift out of line. This can help keep the teeth in the correct positions and avoid further costly orthodontic treatment in the future.

  • Difficulties cleaning the back teeth

It is not only partially erupted wisdom teeth but those who have come through at an awkward angle that can make brushing and flossing difficult or even impossible. If this is the case, removal of the wisdom teeth can prevent repetitive decay and gum problems in the area. It can also make the cleaning of the other back teeth much easier.
